The Move is Complete!

The past few weeks have been what can only be described as hectic and insane. My littlest guy turned two on Wednesday, so we had a joint birthday/going away party last weekend. We invited family only for the birthday party, and then had a few friends join us for a going away party before we moved out of our house and got ready to head overseas. For more about our upcoming move to Europe, check out THIS POST.
Then the real work began. Over the past week we have moved the contents of our entire home into a storage unit, or to a local charity, or to friends and family with small children. Essentially we packed up our entire lives for storage, with the exception of a few suitcases of clothing that we will take with us when we leave for France. Trying to pack up and move things with a 5 and 2 year old in the house was challenging to say the least!

Thankfully, the last few nights we were able to drop the kids off with my parents, and my Aunt and Uncle came over to help us drop things off at the dump and the storage unit. There's no way we would have been able to do it ourselves. The best decision we made? Hiring movers for the furniture. They moved everything much faster than we could have done ourselves.

There were a few late nights, but the deal closed on Friday night, closing off that chapter in our lives. Now we're spending a week in a long stay hotel until we leave for France next week. The kids are excited that they get the attention of their parents back, and they can't wait to take advantage of the pool. My husband and I are just happy to be able to slow down for a few days before the next phase begins.

Choosing a hotel with a gluten free child isn't easy, especially when staying somewhere for an extended period of time. It's not enough to just have a few breakfast options when eating somewhere for over a week. So we chose a hotel that offers full kitchens in the rooms. This way, we can save money on meals by not eating out all the time, and cook safe food for our son. The room has a fridge, stove burners, microwave, and dishwasher. It also comes with pots, pans, cutlery, dishes, etc. so that cooking and eating is simple. The kids were a bit crazy last night, but today was calmer and as I write this the little guy is almost asleep and the 5 year old is watching a movie. Today we just relaxed, got some groceries, and tried to focus on the kids. There's a whole list of things we need to do before getting on an airplane, but the real work can wait until Monday. Tomorrow we're going to go for a swim, take a walk, and generally just lounge around!

  1. Congrats on the move out of your house here being completed. And good luck for the next part of your move! :)
