I Feel Like We Dodged A Bullet, But...

To follow up on yesterday's post about my son's lymph nodes, the blood test results came in and everything looks good. His white cell count was a bit high, but nothing outrageous, and everything else was pretty much smack dab in the normal range. His lymph nodes are still large, but they're not out of the high-normal range yet, so for now they're still okay.

Now my kid can focus on being a kid again.

It was such a relief to get good news yesterday because we've been worried about this issue for a long time. The doctor was satisfied with the results, so unless anything changes, I will be too.

But...

My little guy has had ongoing diarrhea since the beginning of December. At first we thought it was because he was sick (he was sick most of the month), but even when he got better, his poop didn't. He takes probiotics already, but the doctor suggested a different brand so we'll give the new brand a try and see if things get better.

He's also had a recurring rash that we can't seem to get rid of for more than a day or two at a time, so it's back to eliminating things from his diet to see what's what. His appetite is out of control again, and his skin is extremely dry, so I'm going to start doing what I did in the past, which is keep a journal of everything he eats and take notes whenever I see changes to start making some connections.

He was allergy tested as a toddler, but the doctor recommended we wait until he's older before we do it again, and that sometimes an elimination diet can be more effective at his young age. I have some ideas of what could be bothering him, so instead of doing a full elimination diet like last time I'm going to take out what I think is the problem first and then go from there.

The important thing is that the big cloud that's been hanging over our heads for the past year seems to be breaking up, and for that I'm grateful. Thank you to everyone who has left me messages here, on Twitter and in my inbox. Your concern means a lot to me.

  1. That's good news. I have to switch up probiotics and I think I read you can get used to them so it's good to rotate them.
